What I Order On-Line and an Onion Story

My new supply of vitamins came in the mail yesterday for hubby and I.  And for our dogs.   I wanted to take a minute to  share these companies with you. wow~ they should totally pay me!  First ~  Entirely Pets:

For our almost seven (or is it eight?) year old pups, they take  Glyco-Flex III.  Baby, the slightly bigger and bossier sister, woke up one morning and could not move.  When she tried, she would just plop back down, shaking and crying.  I immediately took her to our vet who gave her a shot and said, “It’s arthritis”.  She then told me about Glyco-Flex III and I bought some from the vet for $75.00 for a small package.  UGH.  I know.  I went home and went to my favorite on-line pet supply company and they sold me a package of 120 for $32.00.  My shipments have always arrived in 2-3 days AND if you google coupons, you can almost always find a coupon code for either free shipping or 10% off of purchase.  Baby has not been “down” since starting this “treat”!  And I give a 1/2 to her sister for good measure.

My parents recommended Swanson Health Products to us.  Our orders have ALWAYS been delivered in 2-3 days AND their live customer service is amazing!  I was in shock at how helpful and pleasant they were! Swanson also has coupon codes they will either send you via e-mail or a catalog.  You can also google for coupon codes.  We take regular multi-vitamins, but the most important dailys we take are Probitotics and Ubiquinol.  Read about them.  They might just be for you, too.

Now….about that ONION! Hubby got this from someone on his fb page.  It was credited to Pamela Stone Bunker, and my friend  Paula Acton also posted something similar on her page.  I have no idea as I have not had an illness to try this…it may be a total farce….but I do know that since reading this, I have quit “half using” onions and just start with a fresh one and toss the old!!!  You cannot be too safe!!

Here’s to Better Health!!  Happy Day, Friends ♥

.”.. I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs…sure enough it happened just like that…the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

This is the other note. Lots of times when we have stomach problems we don’t know what to blame. Maybe it’s the onions that are to blame. Onions absorb bacteria is the reason they are so good at preventing us from getting colds and flu and is the very reason we shouldn’t eat an onion that has been sitting for a time after it has been cut open.

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

Ed says that, when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the ‘victim’ last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it’s not the mayonnaise (as long as it’s not homemade mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It’s probably the ONIONS, and if not the onions, it’s the POTATOES.

He explained onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.. He says it’s not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.
Please pass this on to all you love and care about.”

that is so good to know!

The onion story is totally false 😉 I don’t know why people start stories like that… but it happens more than I like to believe, haha. Here’s the link to the explanation on why it’s false. Snopes is an awesome site for looking up the ‘chain mail’ stories!

    • While I don’t know about the “flu” part (but I would STILL try it if I were sick!) …the portion about the onion being dangerous, once out of it’s peel is a good precaution to take. Also….the not giving onions to dogs. It’s on my vet list. Like my dogs would ever eat an onion anyways!!! 🙂 Thanks for the link!

I think this could be an ‘urban legend’, but onions are cheap, so it’s definitely worth a try. I don’t know that I would actually want my house to smell of onions though. 😀

    • I hate the smell of onions!!!! And while the “sickness” part I have no idea about….I would still be willing to try it! ( 🙂 As for the reusing an onion….I’ve read enough on it now to not do that anymore. I will use what I need and toss the rest. Like you said…for the cost…and if it helps my peace of mind….then that’s good for me! 🙂

  4. I never heard the onion thing, but it sounds plausible. I’ll try anything! How’s your poor pup now?

  5. Bonnie says:

Wow! Really good to know…I especially like knowing that about an onion and how it can help you feel better! Trying that next time. White Horse, Onions…cannot wait to see what’s next!! 🙂

  6. I’ve used Swanson’s for years, both their own brand and the national brands, and have never had a problem. Their prices are extremely competitive and as you mentioned, the customer service is first rate. Both of our shih tzus take the gel for the joints, but in a liquid form.

    • That’s awesome. I have been really impressed with their product and service…..just like you. How old are your shihtzus?

      • Our shih tzus are both rescues. The male is around 9 but we don’t know for sure. We rescued the female from a puppy mill when at age 8 she gave birth to only one puppy. They were going to destroy her. I couldn’t believe it. She’s such a love and after living in a small cage and doing nothing but giving birth – – – she still acts like a puppy herself at age 14. The male is the one with the bad joints. He was severely beaten as a puppy and the woman that rescued him thinks perhaps he huddled close to the ground for a long time. He’s a lot of fun but definitely can tell he has to be handled oh so gently – as if we would do anything else. What breed are your animals?

      • Those poor babies are SOOOO fortunate to have you! Their stories break my heart ♥ Ours are sister dogs that my kids got from the humane society in Joplin, MO, when they lived there. The vet says they are mostly terrier….but Sugar talks like a beagle sometimes, so we just call them a “Missoui Mix”. We kept them for a while when the kids were between houses, and then the pups decided to keep us! So now they are Okie dogs! 🙂

      • I love it when our animals choose us. The male shih tzu totally selected my husband. I have a blog coming up before long about how we came to receive him. The female went into heart palpitations when I was in the hospital (maybe it’s a good thing Medicare sent me home):) Prissy slept along beside me for a month in my recliner before I could sleep in the bed and now she insists we must share a pillow. I broke down and purchased a pillow just for her this past week. (No, they aren’t spoiled at all).

      • I know what you mean….they RULE the house! And are the greatest therapy ever!

I knew there was a reason I didn’t like onions:)

  8. Great that you can all get your vits cheaply on the internet, so expensive otherwise. Had read that about onions on FB recently but not sure how true it is. No doubt the OMB (onion marketing board) will have a press release out soon saying you should cut all your onions in half and store them in your fridge for best results.

My puppy came down with arthritis at 3 months old. We took her to a doggy physiotherapist (I’d love to have that job!) and she had some shots and we feed her tuna fish – but since we moved to the warmer climate it seems to have dissipated complately and I’m figuring it must be the mixture of all five things that have really helped. She’s fine now 🙂 But I’m bookmarking this page to keep the Glyco-Flex III in mind, just in case 😀

  12. Lots of good info here, Paula. I’ll never save an onion again and I’m going to look into those dog treats… my Mia is getting old and having some problems 😦

  13. …and here was I thinking that, when you said “an Onion story” you meant THE Onion, America’s Finest News Source… 😛

  15. Interesting about the onions!

  16. Linda Jones says:

Paula – Thanks for the shout-out on Entirely Pets. Had never heard of them and I like their prices for a 12 month supply of Advantage for cats. Check snopes re: the onions. It’s mostly not true but when I got the email on it, I’ll admit I started chopping up my leftover onion and putting it in the freezer. Makes it easier the next time I’m cooking with onions and don’t need it fresh-off-the-onion.

    • Linda ~ I love Entirely Pets….have used them for several years now. So glad you found good prices on your needs as well! I know….I just cannot leave an onion half used since reading this! Better safe than sorry for sure! I have read the snopes….and am gonna go with my gut! Thanks! ♥
