Franklin K. Lane, Secretary of the Interior, delivered a 1914 Flag Day address in which he repeated words he said the flag had spoken to him that morning: “I am what you make me; nothing more. I swing before your eyes as a bright gleam of color, a symbol of yourself.”

We were the only folks on our whole block that proudly flew the flag. How pitiful is that? Either our neighbors didn’t look at their calendar to see that it was Flag Day, or very indifferent about showing any patriotism. We are so blessed to live in a free country. I bet the poor Syrians would give anything to trade places with us. Thanks for your flag post today, Paula.
Well GOOD for you for flying yours, Delores! We have a regular flag pole in our front yard…sadly, our flag ripped in half last week and we haven’t gotten our replacement. BUT…our small flags were out. We are proud to fly our flag ever day. True words from your mouth once again! Appreciate you! ♥ paula
A wave of patriotism washed over me as we entered the International Arrivals Hall at Newark Airport, and I saw the enormous red, white and blue flag hanging on the wall, with a sign that read, Welcome to the United States of America.
It gets me every time!
