We met at Taco Bueno during our college days. He was with his friends. I was with my friends. He asked one my friends out. His friend asked me out. Neither of those worked. Sometime later a group of us were at his and his roommate’s apartment watching MASH (a Sunday night thing to do back in those days.) I slipped into the bathroom and wrote on his mirror with lipstick. I don’t even recall WHAT I wrote, but he caught me. confession….I wanted to be caught! Smiles. A bit later we went on our first date. I had worked late that night and most places were already closed. We went to Coit’s Drive-In, in NW Oklahoma City, and had a frosted mug of root beer. Two weeks later, he asked me to marry him. I said yes.
Yep, there is much more to the story. Like our very first Valentine’s Day. He bought me a Lawnboy push mower. He also surprised me with diamond earrings. A good balance. So I moved forward with the wedding plans. That was thirty-one years ago. Has every day been happy and perfect? Nope. But we try to dwell on the happy. They far outweigh the tough ones. We’ll never hit perfection, but the joy is in trying.
Happy Valentine’s Day, My Love ♥ No more lawn mowers please.
Roses are Red
Violets are Purple
I love you more
Than maple syrple. (by hubby for me 30 years ago.)
♥♥♥ HaPPy Valentine’s Day to Each of YOU! ♥♥♥
the poem is endearing. I’d keep him too.
😉 Still makes me laugh!
Love your love story! Happy Valentine’s Day!!
♥ and to you, Jeannette! 😉
When we have unconditional love, our days don’t all have to be perfect. We know the love is there and everything is still okay.
Well said, Sheri ♥
Gave you a lawn mower… hmmmmm sounds like a keeper to me… but please can I talk to him.. how did he get away with that specially if you cut the lawn…
He would LOVE to talk to you! haha…. As long as the hornets leave me alone….I keep the yard! Great exercise! Happy Day, Bulldog to you and your sweetie ♥
OMG, what a coincidence!! My hubby has been texting goofy poems to me all day and that was one of them LOL
sweet ♥
I hate to tell you that the last Coit’s Root Beer on Portland in OKC just closed down. 😦 Raising a frosty mug of root beer to you and your husband.
;( Cheers ♥
That is the one we went to! Awesome date!! 31 wonderful years!!
I love all the little valentine cards stuck all over the house. Especially the art work in the bathroom!!!lol!
😉 Ha….and I will have to clean it later!!! Enjoy your Valentine search! psb
So, you made thirty one valentine’s cards for hubby? Way to go girl!
😉 give or take!
What a great story!
Silly….but it’s ours! ♥
The perfect Valentine’s Day post ❤
As always, Maggie….you are so kind ♥ I know your “story” & it is precious! Happy ♥ day! paula
darling memories… !! 🙂
thanks, my dear 😉
The only way the lawnmower gift would go over well with me is if it were a riding mower. Sweet story though.
Push mower for me….I seriously like the workout! lol!
I guess it would depend on how big your yard is. I don’t mind a workout, but when we’re talking an acre or more, that’s too much pushing. But good for you!
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO YOU!!! Muah! Lots of love, Emily 🙂
And to YOU! ♥ hugs….paula
I got my later to be ex and brand new vacuum cleaner for her birthday. She then informed me that it was what I would be sleeping with for the rest of our relationship.
😉 I have a thing about vacuum cleaners….I love to buy and try all the updated versions….BUT….not all woman are like that! ;(
I love this!
Thanks ♥
A lawn mower??? – that fella’s a keeper!
😉
This is awesome – I love reading stuff like this!! I’m honestly happy for you both 🙂
🙂 thank you….hope you have a good weekend!
Two weeks later!! AT least my husband waited eight weeks before asking me to marry him. We were married six months after we met. I love that you were writing on his mirror with lipstick. So sweet. What a wonderful story, Paula!
Fun times, Maddie. And we didn’t actually marry til the following May. I graduated from college one weekend, got married two weekends later. Two degrees in one month. BA & MRS. 😉
I love this; y’all are so sweet! I know there has to be more to the story of the lawnmower, just like there is to the story of my engagement ring being paid for with a toilet! 🙂
Oh yes Darla. There is always “the rest of the story!” And as long as your ring wasn’t IN the toilet….it’s all good! 😉
LOL, no not in the toilet. Perhaps I should write about that one!
yes you should!
What a great post! Thank you for a morning laugh and smiles. Your hubby is quite the poet! Congratulations to both of you for finding and staying with each other!
Russ
Thanks for stopping by for breakfast! 😉 Have a super weekend ♥ paula
Such a nice story. If you’ve lasted the ups and downs for over thirty years, you must both be doing something right. Forget about perfect, I agree with the Beatles when they say, ‘All you need is love, love, love is all you need’ 🙂
Great reference song to live by…. (just need to work in some groceries and mtg $! ) 😉 HaPPy Weekend! ♥
just catching up…..great story,♥ ♥ ♥
😉 Am guessing you remember that green lawn mower. It lasted TOO long!
