Saturday at the Farmer’s Market (and Pico de Gallo)

Farmer’s Market was buzzing today in Owasso, Oklahoma.  There was no avoiding the heat, so you just start your day a little earlier.  Take cold water with you.  And go get those “real” tomatoes!  Pico de gallo ~ it’s what’s for supper. It is always great to meet young entrepreneurs!  And yes, I DID buy some bow-wow bones.  My “girls” loved the treats!Owasso Farmer’s Market is local and convenient.  Check out YOUR local market.  A guarantee of good “stuff” and unique people ~

Have a great weekend! And remember to be nice to each other.  😉

My Pico de Gallo recipe:

Desired amount of tomatoes, diced don’t you love the precise measurements?!

1 jalapeno pepper, diced (don’t rub your eyes!)

a few crushed red peppers (if you REALLY like it warm)

a bit of sea salt & a dash of pepper

a dab of garlic and onion powder

a squeeze of lemon juice (optional)

ANOTHER great option is to mix the above mixture with a couple of ripe avocados.  You will love me forever if you try that concoction!  😉

Mix and allow it to become tastier by setting up in the frig for an hour or so.  Also, I detest raw onions.  But if you like them…go for it!  This is delicious rolled up inside of a warmed corn tortilla.  Oh so easy….. and pretty healthy, too!

  1. Delicious photos, Paula. You captured the market buzz!

  2. I can’t believe I haven’t been to a farmer’s market yet this summer…thanks for reminding me! And I loooove pico de gallo…except I am a total wimp when it come to the ‘heat’ [so sad for a CA girl!!] but the avocado – yes please 🙂 Do you ever add cilantro – I love the flavor of it!

    • I do not care for the cilantro taste….I just want to burn my tongue! The hotter the better! 😉 I do like to make peach salsa also. Just substitute the peaches for the tomatoes and leave out the black pepper. So good…hot, salty and sweet. Get the the market, sister! ♥ (should you move to NY?)

      • We would have to have separate salsa bowls if we ever went out for margaritas! Haha – I can’t take the heat and you won’t eat the cilantro. Hilarious!

Yes, to market, to market I go….

        New York? That’s funny!

      • Ok….let me know when you’ll be in town and we will go to “Ted’s”! It’s the best! Separate bowls and drinks….

Do you recall the old Pace Salsa commercial? “New York City, Get a Rope.” 😉

cilantro and onion make it perfect 🙂 love the market on our town square!

    • that’s the part that makes me wonder if mom & dad picked up the wrong kid at the hospital….you guys ALL love onions! 😉 hope you went to your mkt today. there’s some great maters out there!

  4. Jeannette Wynne says:

Pico de Gallo must have onions and cilantro! Farmer’s Markets are the best. Even better will be picking tomatoes and apples from our own crop. Love the picture of the young sales girls:)

  5. Are you telling me that those gorgeous, big, red tomatoes actually tasted like tomatoes? I’m so tired of these tasteless things we get that were picked green and shipped from Mexico. We tried growing our own here, but the Arizona sun baked them before they were big enough to pick. Oh woe is us!

  6. marvin says:

Paula says I can have onions any time I want. And then she says ” but you ain’t kissin me!” I haven’t had an onion in 30 years. 😉

  7. marviiilous says:

i want the bow wow bones too!

    • I tasted a bite of one this morning. Pretty good, Oatmeat, crunchy peanut butter…just needed a bit of brown sugar! The girls (pups) had one for breakfast and wanted more. All gone, but we will return! 😉

  8. Thanks for the recipe!
I think I’ll add the avocados and love you forever…
