While it was still a t-shirt and flip-flops kinda day….the weather warning was one of bitter cold, snow and ice headed our way. So here are a few shots I took along the way….
I returned to the store yesterday, just as the sleet started falling from the gray skies. Boston baked beans candy were on my list! And what about you….when you know you may be stuck inside for a day or so….what is your go to food?
Stay safe and warm!
Once all the necessaries are gathered, I’d recommend riding it out with a good book and the best coffee you can find.
Oh YES on the book!!! (I don’t drink coffee….but spiced tea will work for me!) 🙂
Hot Chocolate, Summer sausage, Cheese and Crackers. Yarn and looms plus fabric from an essential trip to Hobby Lobby BEFORE the storm 😉 . And an extra litterbox to bring poor outdoor kitty inside. ❤
Summer sausage….that sounds GOOD! I think we’ve been pretty fortunate on this one!
this is unbelievable half empty shelves….. never seen that nowadays. I think people do panic! Stay safe and warm, I hope it will not be too bad!
I was even having flashbacks of a few years ago when I lived in Missouri. We were without power for a week….so you never really know! The roads are rough here, but not too bad AND…we have our power!
That is a good thing and I do hopethe weather will be easy on you!
We are totally good. As long as we are inside! Thanks 🙂
I went to the store a couple of days early – I started the crock pot the night before and let it cook through the night I’m case I lost power. I have been cooped up for two days now and the only think I really miss is hot apple cider K-cups and some carmel. Hopefully those are on the shelf tomorrow when I venture out to restock.
I was surprised at how well they had restocked late yesterday vs. the evening before. It’s those little things that keep us sane. Be safe!
I hope there is chocolate – I need some chocolate.
Oh I understand!!! Maybe amazon could “drone” some to you? 🙂
That might work, I have a couple of hot cocoa K-cups left, I think I may survive.
🙂
I have had hours of on and off sleet. I’m waiting it out this weekend with football, lemon cake, chocolate cupcakes and my very favorite, French’s onion chicken.
Well great….now I’m craving icing!!! 🙂 Sleet = yuck. Be safe and keep that power on!
Interesting dialog….from my perspective, it is probably a rare event that would happen in my neck of the woods:) It’s freezing at night right now on the central coast of CA and super chilly days for us, but you can still bundle up and go anywhere you want. I guess if a major rain storm hit (rare) , I would hunker down with coffee and a book. We won’t mention fire or earthquakes 🙂
Every area has its “thing” to prepare for….we hate to see the crops freeze in CA!!
I’m not sure I would want to go out in anything but warm boots for the weather lol but wow everyone sure is getting prepared with stocking up whew
I’ll be wearing my snow boots for the next several days. The flip flops will be retired til we hit the 50’s again!
wow! today was a thermal underwear, jeans, 2 pairs of socks, tshirt, sweater, down filled coat, hat, scarf, winterboots -40 (which is the same in celsius and farenheit) kinda day for me. I WANT SUMMER AND FLIP FLOPS!
Bless your heart!!! I’m freezing at 8 (F)! And yes I did dig out my thermals yesterday before venturing out. Be warm and safe, my friend! ♥
I’m so excited – it warmed up to -20c (-4f) today!
omgoodness…..
LOL! Somehow your reaction makes it more bearable! 🙂
You are one tough cookie! I would crumble for sure!
Oh and I’m making spaghetti. 🙂
Is there any left? 🙂
Lots of chocolate, of course, Mighty leaf tea bags for day, red wine for night, and a couple of dozen books. What else would anyone need?
Sounds like a perfect “ice” in to me!
Haven’t experienced that yet…no snow where I come from!
Have a safe and cozy winter! 🙂
Thank you so much. Snow is a pain…be glad. It is lovely to observe, but causes so much work, expense, trouble!!! Be safe ♥ paula
Okay, I’m not the brightest candle in the room, as you know. Why the run on toilet paper? And what is tube sand? I’m not fond of 22 degrees AT ALL but we do get it from time to time. Hardly ever get the snow, tho.
We have been iced/snowed in or for a week at a time….hence the t.p. Tube sand is to toss in the back of pickup trucks(or rear wheel drive autos) as the extra weight is needed to prevent sliding into the ditch. It was 8 here this a.m. And it’s not winter yet! 🙂
8 degrees, dear God. It got down to 7 one time many moons ago. It causes all kinds of havoc to our plumbing which is not set up for hard freezes like that. Saw on Yahoo that the cold is headed east, shiver shiver.
Well it did warm up to 25 eventually….but that temp sure drops fast. I worry for the homeless people that should be safely tucked inside. I worry for the critters….we just need it to warm up again!
From flip flops to boots. Amazing. We have snow coming down this evening. I hit the grocery store yesterday, so I wouldn’t have to go out this weekend. I just put in the basics – water, milk, orange juice bread, lunch meat. Cookies, ice cream sandwiches, potato chips, Coca Cola – the basics. 🙂
But no m & m’s??? 🙂 Have missed you….but so glad you have been writing!
No m&m’s. 🙂 I’m happy, too, Paula. I honestly wasn’t sure I could write any more, but I’m really tickled with how things are going and am excited to be editing. — I’ve missed you, too! 🙂
I am soooooooooooo proud of you! (yes…I know you will count the ‘o’s. 🙂
In the South, it is typical to have a run on the grocery stores even if there is a forecast of snow flurries…. not so common here and many folk don’t know how to prepare… Sue

Prep is important….and we are given days of notice….I guess it’s just fun to run out with everyone else in those last moments before “the storm”. 🙂
I hope you stay safe, warm, and well-fed, Paula!
All of the above, Russ….really blessed. Thank you!
I read this post with such interest. We hear news of the extreme cold and how this particular “freeze” is moving across the country, and in fact, even here in Los Angeles we are colder than usual. But we aren’t COLD like you are. So we don’t have runs to the store to get supplies. I don’t even think about that. Your photos gave me a chance to really contemplate what you experience and given the busyness of the season, that’s another whole element of life to factor! I hope you have all you need, and that you stay warm and safe. I truly do!
We are good. Side roads are icky….and I don’t drive in it unless necessary, but all is well. My dogs are none to happy about it though! A warm eight degrees (F) this a.m. I wouldn’t want to go out either!
Thanks so much for your sweet wishes! Anything above freezing is awesome right now! 🙂 paula
Meat pancakes… stay safe…
🙂 We are good….hope you are feeling better!
*laughing … can see that milk and beer has been hot items … to store up for the chill. *smile No difference to over here – only the the beer we have to buy at a special government own liqueur store.
Ice cream with meringues and chocolate sauce …. or toasted bread with strong cheese and jam.
Our snow and chill is gone – today dark and rainy wet. Strange how weather can change.
Government owned …. very interesting. But not surprising that they have control of the good stuff. Ice cream…. if we ever get enough snow…. I love to make snow ice cream!!
Weather….it can change in a moment. And I’m ready for that moment. 🙂
Yes, total control and not cheap (very expensive because of high taxes) … not even restaurants can buy from somewhere else – but they are very good on what they are doing – and their knowledge about wines from all over the world is probably the best on the market … worldwide.
Wines are more responsible prices. Systembolaget is the shop called. http://www.systembolaget.se/English/ – I’m all in favor for it.
Funny..but almost every Friday, I make sure that there are enough grapes, chocolate, tea, and cheese snack sticks to get me thru the weekend!..lol
What a great plan! ESP chocolate and tea!!! 🙂
You look very well stocked up. Keep warm. It’s always T-shirt and flip-flop weather here in Florida. 🙂
Awwww….rub it in!
🙂
I’ve enjoyed reading your comments section. So often prep is more panic. I mean really? Who doesn’t have canned goods in their pantry? (I’m not refering to the poor and homeless of course … they aren;t the ones running in panic to the grocery store). It’s always milk and bread! WHAT? I always jokingly ask if they’re making milk toast? 🙂 Me? Wine, cheese, bread!
I’m with you…..I buy organic milk about every six weeks and end up tossing most of it. It does make for fun observations and conversations! 🙂
My go to food is to make chicken soup in the crock pot which is what I did yesterday when we had snow! 🙂
I have never made it in the crock pot! But we did have this our first “cold” day. So tell us how you make it that way?!!? Yum!
Easy peasy.
Roasting chicken in crock pot until button pops on chicken. Pour juices/chicken in strainer over big pot which will go on stove. Debone chicken while carrots/celery/onion/garlic cook in broth until tender. Add chicken for 15 minutes, then add orzo pasta and cook until tender. Taste and season as you wish. I use crockpot for chicken only although I know of others who only use crockpot for entire recipe. House smells lovely while chicken is cooking and then smells yummy when soup is on! 🙂
This sounds great!!! Thanks for sharing!! I’ve never bought a whole chicken. (don’t laugh) 🙂
Really? A roasting chicken? It’s easy and I’m all about easy! 🙂
I know…..who knew they had wings and legs?
