There’s something about a Sunday drive…
listening to country music on the radio…
leaving all of your cares behind…
even if just for a little while. ♥
We moved into our present house in July, five years ago. There was a slight drought going on at the time and the tree in our front yard was dead. The builders agreed they would replace the tree. And they did….during the extreme heat. It didn’t make it. So once again another tree was planted. The new tree was burned on the backside and we were doubtful~ but we watered it, fertilized it, had a tree guy take a look at it, and worried a bit more. Was it worth all the trouble? You betcha. 🙂
It’s the little things, right?
I captured this billboard as we were driving down Rangeline in Joplin, Missouri last Sunday. My youngest son came to mind. A die-hard fan of the Chiefs, he is pumped over their winning season. MSSU Lions? Well~ not so certain on their season. his alma mater But this post is not about the Chiefs. It is not about MSSU.
Last weekend my sweet neighbor and her hubby drove to Dallas and then hopped a plane to New York. Talk about an avid fan….she is a JETS fan deluxe. This would be her first live game and she was and still is thrilled beyond words! Even though the Jets were expected to lose to the more powerful Patriots, they played strong and won in a controversial overtime. Details Here. I think I could hear Michelle screaming all the way to Missouri! But this post isn’t about the Jets.
My friend Michelle is fighting breast cancer. And I don’t say this lightly. This girl really is a fighter. She continues to live life to the fullest, spend time with her little girls, and flash that smile no matter what she’s dealing with in a day. We truly think the reason the Jets won last Sunday???? Michelle. She was in the house. But as my hubby says… Now Michelle is due a win.
October is Breast Care Awareness month, but the battle is daily. It is physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Pray for a cure, ….and pray for our Michelle and for every person that is touched by this disease ♥
Once I overcame breast cancer, I wasn’t afraid of anything anymore.

Driving home from Missouri the other evening, we watched an interesting formation of clouds. As their intensity increased, so did my determination to snap a photo. I posted it on my Facebook page and it was interesting to see what it looked like “in another’s eyes”. Several of the Okies, myself included, thought of tornadoes, no doubt. One saw a heart. My sister was reminded of flower petals.
I started thinking about how we view others at a glance. Or even how we sum up a person that we know. Our opinion doesn’t make them who they are. But it can either help or hinder their pathway.
I want to choose to be on the help side. A situation that needs attention can be handled in an edifying manner.
My hope is to be the encourager. I want to see hearts and flower petals. ♥
What Do You See?
Be nice to people. You never know what they may be dealing with today. ~ psb
In just a few hours….our oldest son, Mad, will turn …well….older! He and his bride live a couple of hours from us, and we had the pleasure of having lunch with them yesterday. Eating, laughing, and catching up. As we drove away we were already missing him. But we drove away, so proud of the young man he has become.
So now that I’ve whipped out my wallet….I shall also whip out my you tube link. I have shared before….but it’s my boy’s birthday….so I am sharing again. OLD GLORY
Happy Birthday my little redhead. We love you ♥
Proof that putting it off does not fix the problem. Nor does it disappear. It simply allows the problem to grow.
Happy Friday! Be kind, one to another! ♥
This is yesterday’s Facebook post from Oklahoma State Senator Rick Brinkley. It spoke to me….and I wanted to pass it along. Here’s to courage. Here’s to Hope.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen the government shut down, neighborhoods in fear because of so many shootings, outrage over the beating death of a 2-year-old, and a nation with its priorities so out of whack that it’s government thought it could shut down open air memorials and not pay the death benefits of its soldiers. Benefits that go to the most vulnerable of our society….the spouses & the children of soldiers who gave their full measures for our freedom while the government they are fighting for “forgot” about their children, spouses, and parents.
We all whine about the “way things are.” But, this nation was not founded, designed, nor defended by whiners. In the formation of our nation, our Founding Fathers may have momentarily felt like victims, but they summoned anger & courage to change things.
From Facebook to the 24-hour cable news channels and the older men drinking coffee at the doughnut shop to the young moms in the carpool lane, we are a nation that is becoming increasingly angry. At least we are moving from complacency.
We must find our Hope, again.
Many of you know my favorite quote is by St. Augustine who lived from 354 to 430. He said “Hope has two beautiful daughters. Their names are anger and courage; anger at the way things are, and courage to see that they do not remain the way they are.”
Our anger keeps us in Hopelessness. Courage brings us to Hope.
Our nation. Your Family. You. They will all remain in a hopelessness as long we remain in Anger. We must summon the Courage of our forefathers and of our soldiers, if we want to regain our Hope. If we want to “see that (things) do not remain the way they are.”
In order to move toward Hope, you must first move from Anger to Courage.
You. Me. We. Must start today. Leave Anger. Embrace Courage. Regain Hope.
Saturday morning my baby boy was in a deer stand somewhere in western Oklahoma. I couldn’t help but giggle at the text message I received from him on my phone. I’m thankful that my boys believe in the power of prayer. ♥
Disclaimer: No animals were injured in this hunt. 🙂
Be nice to people….and to critters.
Our last couple of days in the Ozarks were spent exploring. No matter how many times you visit the area, there is always more to discover. We stayed at a quaint and adorable tree house resort. We both agreed that we didn’t want to deal with ghosts at the Crescent Hotel this time around. That didn’t keep us from paying it a visit in the evening though. It is always intriguing.
Before leaving the next day, a local gave us directions to Beaver Bridge. A single lane bridge ( 11 feet wide and 554 feet long) built in 1949 that crosses the White River. It is the last standing suspension bridge in Arkansas. Bridges make me really nervous, but we lived on the edge and crossed it twice. I was thinking of The Bridge of San Luis Rey the entire time! 🙂
There were a few more stops along the way…..but I’ll spare you. Time away and time together are something hubby and I fight for because of his career. So by drawing out my posts….well….you understand. Perhaps the writer of this song (Bob Dylan?) lived in the mountains, because when you are simply visiting…..time passes by quickly…
Time passes slowly up here in the mountain
We sit beside the bridges and walk beside the fountains
Catch the wild fishes that float though the stream
Time passes slowly when you’re lost in a dream.
Wishing each of you a wonderful week.
