The Art of Non-Conformity, Set Your Own Rules, Live the Life you Want and Change the World, by Christ Guillebeau
So my sister, Renae, told me about this book MONTHS ago. The author states, “If you’re feeling stuck in something and have always believed THERE MUST BE MORE TO LIFE, this book is for you.” I had never given much thought to the folks we deal with daily. How many of them prevent us from succeeding more than helping us. Through this book, if you are willing, the author will help you set goals, break through fear barriers and begin your new legacy. I know it must sound a bit corny to read this, but if you study this book with an open mind, it can get you started in a good direction. On the flip side, if you cannot read it open-mindedly, save your $.
Here’s a little idea of the book from chapter two: 1. Creating Your Ideal World ~ an exercise to write out your idealized, perfect day. 2. Radical Goal-Setting = FOCUS. One year goals, Five year goals, Lifetime goals 3. Plan for Serendipity: Plan for people you love; planning & thinking time; adventure goals( and so much more listed in this section). Plan to LEAVE OUT ~ Drama & Whiny people; busy work that lacks value; schedules set by other people; unnecessary obligations that we do out of GUILT. (ouch!)
It is incredible at how much is wrapped up in these 240 pages. I cannot make a dent in summarizing it. He reminds us that personal accountability and working hard are key. Also, if you suffer from life avoidance, this author can open you up instead to “life purpose and planning.” ( There is even a chapter for one year, self-directed alternative graduate school experience.) To quote the author at the end of the book, “It’s far easier to be a cynic than a believer. Whatever you decide, don’t do that. Stand for something! Come join the living world. The rest of us are waiting.”
If you are looking for a “set your pants on fire” motivational book to kick-start your life, this might just be the one. It’s why I started this blog…..think about joining me! Thanks Renae, for this great find!
Reblogged this on stuff i tell my sister and commented:
I’m digging this book out again! Happy Tuesday and be kind to yourself and to others♡
Sounds exciting! I’ll have to use my $ wisely and go get it! Thanks.
Take care, Louise! ♡
Yes, I noticed the repost was the day you started your blog. It’s amazing what God will use to develop our passions. I’m glad He used a book to “set your pants on fire” to write a blog and to share your photography.
I have been sluggish in blogging the past year, but still post when I can. I never imagined the connections and wonderful people I’d meet in blog land! A true gift. I enjoy your writings, Deb. Take care!
I think blogging kick started my life. There’s a lot to do in life, for sure, but it’s nice to connect to others and share what we’re doing. Have a great rest of your weekend, Paula. 🙂
I agree! My blogging has slowed down considerably since our grand twins and then my elder friends I see daily….but I’m storing new posts up in my head! Miss you, Marsha! Happy week and New Year! ♡
