So Long My Friend ~

so long my friend

I guess we can never know what song will be the song that reminds us of a person when they leave this life. Not until they are gone, that is. In these past few weeks I’ve learned that you don’t choose their song….it just comes to you. Over and over until your tears finally turn to smiles when you hear it play.

And that’s where I am. My heart hurts for the loss of my sweet friend and dear neighbor, Michelle. She left us too young, something I will never understand. But she also left us with her tender heart, her fighting spirit, her beautiful daughters, and somehow….with hope.

Oh. And then there’s her song.  ♥  I miss you, Michelle.  Every day.

When I got the news today
I didn’t know what to say.
So I just hung up the phone.

I took a walk to clear my head,
This is where the walking led
Can’t believe you’re really gone
Don’t feel like going home

So I’m gonna set right here
On the edge of this pier
Watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer

Funny how the good ones go
Too soon, but the good Lord knows
The reasons why, I guess

Sometimes the greater plan
Is kinda hard to understand
Right now it don’t make sense
I can’t make it all make sense

So I’m gonna set right here
On the edge of this pier
Watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer

So long my friend
Until we meet again
I’ll remember you
And all the times that we used to…

set right here on the edge of this pier
And watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer.
(By Luke Bryan…..my many thanks to him!)

  7. I was pregnant with a boy before my daughter was even a twinkle her in father’s eye. At 31 weeks he stopped moving and an ultrasound confirmed that he had passed. As my friend drove me to the hospital Eric Clapton’s Tears in Heaven came on the radio. That was my song for Jesse. It took years before I could hear it without crying. You’re right though, the song was and is a comfort. I’m sorry for the loss of your neighbour and friend. ❤

  8. A few years back I lost a very close friend to cancer who was far too young, and it still hurts to this day. However, the happy memories help heal the heart, so focus on them as much as you can.
