So How Do You Feel About Zombies?

Saturday evening, I was fortunate enough to be given tickets to a live play in our downtown area.  I thoroughly enjoy plays, musicals and symphonies.  Hubby?  Not so much.  So when I told him of our weekend plans, he tried very hard to act excited.  I explained it as it had been explained to me.  It is really good.  Dark Comedy.

We drove downtown and did some winding around where we located a place to park just a couple of city blocks from the theatre entrance.  The air was very chilly, just adding to the excitement of the evening.  Our seats were the best in this quaint theater setting of a few hundred.  Lights out.  Now stage lights up.  It was then I took a double at what I thought I saw seated in the chair on the set.  A Zombie.  Yep.  I had dressed up and brought my hubby to a Zombie play.Let me explain, the actors in this play were excellent and had fun with their assumed roles.  I don’t know how any of them were able to keep a straight face given the zombie in the room for most of the scenes.  Moaning.  Groaning.  I doubt that hubby or I laughed in all the right places. We are not “zombie” people.  It became more and more hilarious if we dared glance at each other.

About an hour in, the scene closed.  The house lights came up.  It was intermission time.  As folks rose from their seats,  we looked at each other and I KNEW what hubby was not saying in that broad smile.  Now I must tell you that I finish what I start, normally.  I can only recall one book ever that I began and did not complete.  Yes, even bad books, I want to know the ending!  I suggested we step out and stretch our legs. Hubby was quite eager at this.  We observed the many people in line for drinks. Finally, I asked, “Do you want to step outside for a cigarette?”  “Yes!”, he replied.  We. Don’t. Smoke. About thirty minutes later, our server at the restaurant brought our drinks.  I asked Logan, “So how do YOU feel about Zombies?”  To which he quickly replied, “I can honestly say that’s the first time I’ve ever been asked that one!”

Let me end this by saying this was in no way meant to be a negative reflection on this theatre production or the actors.  They truly were excellent and we look forward to their next play.  It was just a great giggle for two fifty-plus(ers).  AND, I am more zombie informed now.  In fact, I’m fairly sure I saw one walking in the park yesterday……..  🙂

HaPPy Trick or Treating to you! ( And if you love Zombies?  Go visit my blog friend, Christopher De Voss.  I found myself thinking of him at the play’s open.  No, he is not a zombie.  But he’ll make you laugh.)

About that Halloween Candy…

There were many errands to run this morning.  While I was in the grocery store, I passed a spooky display of goodies. Perhaps while I’m here, I should go ahead and purchase “trick or treat” candy, I thought.  My cardinal rule is to either wait until the day of Halloween to pick up candy OR buy icky stuff that I don’t like.   It all looked very enticing and I had not yet had breakfast or lunch.  Plus, I always want to be “that” house.  You understand?  The one with the best treats.   It IS for the neighborhood children, after all.  So I bought some favorites candy brands and left them in the grocery bag when I got home.  Out of sight, out of mind.

A few hours later, I was digging in the pantry for the ingredients to make pizza crust and I spotted our Halloween candy bowl.  I rinsed it out, dried it and then thought….well, what harm could it do to place the unopened bags in the bowl.  And that’s when it happened.  I realized there was another force in the kitchen that was stronger than myself.   The M & M’s were possessed!  The demons beckoned, “OPEN ME”.  And I did.  They shrilled, “Eat a package.”  And I did.  They demanded. “Try another.”  I obeyed the voices.  What a curse it is to have such a sweet tooth!  I may have to go back to the store Wednesday morning.  🙂  For the children, of course~

(By the way, the voices must be speaking to hubby, also.   I notice the Twizzlers are now open!)  🙂

Irish Blessings from my Sister

My sister just returned from Ireland a few days ago.  She has shared some terrific photos with me, and so I am posting a few for you.  I will ask her later if it’s okay!  One of these really stood out to me.  It said, “You are truly sisters.”  I’m certain you will know it when you see it.  🙂

May you always walk in sunshine.  May you never want for more. May Irish angels rest their wings right beside your door.(http://tacomaweekly.tripod.com/Irish-Quotations.html)

Change the Picture?

While I was cleaning house the other day preparing for my overnight “guests”, I had a mindless television show on while working.  I wasn’t particularly paying attention or so I thought until I heard the young man say, (paraphrasing) “You know what your problem is?  You have a happy life, but you are afraid to admit it, because it isn’t what you had pictured in your head for yourself.  So if happiness is what you really want, change that picture.”

Here I am several days later, and this phrase continues to resonate in my mind.  Even at my age, I continue to question what I will be when I “grow up”.  How I can make a difference, better myself and help others.   Would “changing the picture” be giving in to mediocrity?  Or would it simply be accepting happiness and life as it is?

Perhaps turning the channel is the better solution?

I don’t know.  Just thinking outloud…..because of a thoughtless tv show.

What do you think?  ♥

My Favorite American Idol

I found a big red box of goodies the other day.  The moment I eyed the box, I knew what was inside and grew eager to open the lid.  The box was filled with well wishes, smooshed balloons, blessings and oh so many memories.  The occasion?  The celebration of our eldest son’s birth!

With each card I opened, I found myself smiling at the remembrance.  And with fondness, I thought of each person who bestowed these words and gifts upon our brand new little guy.  There were names I had not recalled in ages. But each holds a special place in my heart, even today….as we celebrate his 27th birthday.

Happy Birthday my little red-headed, Mad.  Your dad and I love you forever and for always. We are proud of you and the joy and laughter and sometimes hair-pulling  you have filled our lives with. You will always be our favorite American idol. ♥
