Justice?

Pretty much anything said to me either brings a specific song to mind or a Seinfeld episode.  Hubby made a statement this morning and now this song is stuck in my head.  Perhaps it will be stuck in your head as well?  sorry  😉

IF I HAD A HAMMER (The Hammer Song)
words and music by Lee Hays and Pete Seeger

If I had a hammer
I’d hammer in the morning
I’d hammer in the evening
All over this land
I’d hammer out danger
I’d hammer out a warning
I’d hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

If I had a bell
I’d ring it in the morning
I’d ring it in the evening
All over this land
I’d ring out danger
I’d ring out a warning
I’d ring out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

If I had a song
I’d sing it in the morning
I’d sing it in the evening
All over this land
I’d sing out danger
I’d sing out a warning
I’d sing out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

Well I’ve got a hammer
And I’ve got a bell
And I’ve got a song to sing
All over this land
It’s the hammer of justice
It’s the bell of freedom
It’s the song about love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

Setting an Example ~

Wishing my dad a Happy Father’s Day!
dad service 2dad pic 004 dad 5

We were blessed to be raised by a gun-toting, hard-working, family focused, God-loving man. Thanks for that, Dad.

And Happy Father’s Day to my hubby….who set(s) that same example.

To all men….this is your day. Enjoy it, own it, but remember….you are setting an example for everyone around you. It’s up to you to determine if your example is one that makes the world a better place.  And it’s never too late to start. ♥

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Reflections

reflections

Don’t forget that many of the troubles and stresses that come in life are not your fault.  Nor are they your loved one’s fault.  They just happen.  Work together to overcome these obstacles and you can grow closer rather than creating a wedge.  And drink wine. or a cherry coke  😉  Here’s to sweet reflections and a Happy Friday ♥reflections1

Bend, But Do Not Break

debris flower

This flower is hanging on the front porch at my parent’s home in Moore, Oklahoma. It was there before the tornado, and it remained after the storm as well.  The window directly behind this plant is shattered to pieces.  The siding is obviously coated in muck and ick.  But just look at this flower!  What a wonderful representation of the spirit of the people of Oklahoma. . .

Happy Monday, friends.  Be nice to each other ♥

Pieces of the Heart ~ What we found in the debris

tornado 069We went to Moore, Oklahoma a few days after the first tornado in order to help my mom and dad and their neighbors with debris clean up and repairs.

Thankful to be alive!

Thankful to be alive!

The dump trucks were a constant flow in and out of the neighborhood. The system was to haul the debris to the median, the trucks loaded it and took it away.

It was an overwhelming task. Millions of little pieces, buried deep in the wet grass and bare soil. Debris was wrapped in the shrubs and tucked beneath rose bushes. Styrofoam, insulation, roof shingles, splinters of 2 x 4’s, paper….wait…. these were book pages.  Music. Photographs. Dog tags. The first discovery of something legible, made us aware  that we were not just cleaning up debris, we were picking up the pieces of scattered lives.  Broken hearts.  Fear.  And they were scattered for miles….

As we followed these trucks out-of-town the day we left, we knew they were not simply hauling trash to the dump, but rather they were burying pain, secrets, and pasts.

Be nice to people. You really never know what they may be dealing with today. ♥

Here’s to Oklahoma for keeping the faith~

You’ll Never Walk Alone ~

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma storm ~

Through the barbed wire ~

Through the barbed wire ~

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

Walk on, through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone

Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone

Happy Birthday MOM!

If you are a regular follower, you have been on our tornado journey for well over a week now. We also sang “Happy Birthday to You!” and enjoyed birthday cake in celebration of my mom’s special day! She has proved it over and over….that she is superwoman….. but today, I think she just possibly took it over the top.

So please join me in wishing my mom the happiest birthday EVER!

Moore, Oklahoma ~ Tornado

tornado 012We are just back from my folks home in the tornado devastated, Moore, Oklahoma.  We took the usual route to their house early Saturday morning.  Most everything was the same.  That is, until we turned the corner onto my parent’s road.  Our hearts dropped. No matter how many times you see the results of a tornado, you are never ready for it.  It is always eerie, mind-blowing and heart-breaking.  The destruction path was as bad and even worse than expected.  It was a slow approach to their house, being careful to stay out-of-the-way of the trucks collecting debris, bulldozers, and hundreds of volunteers.  We were relieved to find S.E. 8th street with minor damages.  While many houses needed new roofs, the hundreds of houses across the median had NO roofs to replace.

There is much I could tell you about this experience, but I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.  With the six other awesome volunteers that joined us, we were able to knock out some major clean up and repairs on TWO homes.  Very grateful home owners and willing volunteers made the work a pleasure instead of just a chore.  Oklahoma is strong.  Moore will rebuild.  But not without the love and helping hands of so many generous and giving people.  Our sincere thanks to all ♥ May those lost to this storm forever Rest In Peace ♥

p.s. A little disclaimer ~ my photos taken of the damaged area in Moore, Oklahoma were taken either from my parent’s yard or from our vehicle in route to their house. We stayed on “our designated corner” and I would discourage folks from going into disaster areas unless they are called upon to help. Okay….I feel better now. 😉  Speak up for yourself whenever necessary, but be nice to people ♥
