Hot Crackers ~

december 2012 017I am going to go “play” for a few days, so last night, I made a couple of goodies for hubby to snack on while I am away.  There are many variations to this recipe and I never make it the same way. I was introduced to these by my friends Shari and Shelly at our “50th” birthday bash.  I’ve been hooked since!  Thanks a lot, gals~

If you haven’t tried Hot Crackers….well, here’s the recipe: and they are addictive!

One box of saltines (my variation on this?  Whatever other crackers I may have in the pantry that day! Cheez-its, rye, pretzel chips and almonds made the cut today. Of course, when I add other crackers, I only use half of the saltines)

2 packages of dry ranch dressing mix  Use whatever variety sounds good to you.  Today I am using original.

Red crushed pepper  The hotter the better…that’s our taste.  So if you cannot handle the heat, just use a teaspoon or so.  I use six Pizza Hut packages!

3/4 cup canola oil

Mix together dressing mix, pepper and canola oil.  Place crackers in very large bowl.  Pour “mix” over crackers.  I use a wooden spoon and carefully turn the mixture. You don’t want to crush the crackers.  After that, seal bowl with a lid or foil and toss lightly, mixing.  Do this every so often until the mixture has absorbed.  I think they are best the next day, but a few hours will do it if need be.  I store them in a couple of storage bags.  They are too delicious not to share!  december 2012 018december 2012 019

I also made tabouli tonight, but I will share that one another day~

Hope you enjoy!  I’ll see ya in a few days!  Have a great Monday and be nice to people!  Even if they run over your mailbox! ♥

A Modern Day Poe ?

Hubby came home for lunch the other day and as is our routine, I walked him out when he was leaving and walked down to grab the mail.  That’s when I noticed…between the time he had  arrived home and left, our mailbox had been mushed.  The mail was hanging out of it in all directions.  Thinking it was probably the mail carrier that hit it, but not certain, I had the local police come by to write it up for vandalism.  The officer took pictures, pulled a curled up piece of postal red pinstripe from the corner edge of the box, and said, ” He needs to admit it.”  Having now narrowed it down to a ten minute time frame…..there was only one conclusion to draw.  The carrier’s boss told me that since he did not report it right when it happened, he would be fired now if he admits it.  I don’t want him to lose his job.  I want honesty.  I want him to do what I did when I backed into my sister’s red and grey Mercury Bobcat……TWICE.  And when I broke the neighbors vacuum I’d borrowed when we first got married. And when I sucked up my son’s favorite hotwheels car in the car wash vacuum.  Walk to the door.  Tell me.

The UPS man has come to my door on two occasions since we moved here,  apologizing for stepping on my solar lights in the flowerbed.  He offered to pay.  I just thanked him and told him, “No worries…it happens.”   Then I stuck the broken light back in the ground for next time. 🙂  Bless his heart for telling me, though!

I went to Lowes, bought a replacement mailbox and address numbers.  Hubby said he was pretty certain he could straighten the metal pole without having to replace it.  Moments later it came to me.  The Tell-Tale Heart.  Pondering on the echo of the beating heart and the insanity that followed….I told hubby, “No, I think I want to just leave my broken mailbox that way for a while.”  He smiled.  He has read Poe, too.

Moral of the story?  Mistakes happen to everyone!  We all have momentary stupidness.  I could write weeks of blogs on mine! 🙂  But a silly mailbox has now placed a giant distrust in my gut.  I’m guessing Poe never thought he’d get a mailbox gig?!

louder, Louder, LOUDER…mailbox

Have a great weekend….and be careful in reverse!

Watching and Waiting~

It was close to this time last year that hubby and I were driving out of the neighborhood, and just as we neared the lake I yelled, and yes I mean yelled!  “Stop the Car!”  When this happens it usually means there is either a bee or a frog in the vehicle.  Hubby always stops promptly, as moving cars do not hinder me from a quick exit when a creepy critter is involved.  But this time it was different. It was “My Eagle”.  Well…that’s how he came to be known after his second siting.  I followed him all around the lake and walking area most of the winter.  He is the reason I am healthy.  He insisted that if I wanted photos of him, I would have to work for it.  I am hoping that his safe summer travels bring him back to us soon.  His beauty is inspiring. Majestic.   Plus I need the exercise! Watching and waiting….

Have a great one, friends.  Be nice to people.  And take your probiotics.  🙂

In My Own Little Corner

In my own little corner in my own little chair, I can be whatever I want to be…

Cinderella

Cinderella was one of my favorite musicals as a little girl.  I can still sing most of the lyrics from it by heart.  I’m not sure how old I was, but I finally did figure out that it wasn’t  about the delicate glass slippers or the pumpkin or the prince.  It was all about the journey…

Be nice to people. ♥ You never know what they may be dealing with ~

Grandma

Over the River and Through the Woods

As I was doing a bit of grocery shopping and later mixing up our dressing stuffing to others , I was thinking about our many Thanksgivings spent at grandma’s house.  Everyone was always welcome, the more the merrier.  Plenty of hugs and food and love to go around.

It seems my grandma was not alone in making a person feel like they were the most important one in the room.  Enjoy this post about another dear lady.  I guarantee it’ll make you homesick.  It sure did me.  Over the River…Down the Block

There is much to be thankful for today and everyday.  I am grateful for each of you…blessings.

♥Happy Thanksgiving ♥  paula ~

My Favorite Day…..

“What day is it?” It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.  My favorite day,” said Pooh.”
―    A.A. Milne

Sunday was a terrific day around here. It was hubby’s last real day off for a while because of the business he is in.  This meant one more little road trip.  While we had both been to these destinations before, today we would take our sidekicks with us, Debbie and John.  When you have friends held hostage in your car and they are at your mercy for the day…well, ya really don’t know where the road may lead!

Our families met years ago when our boys were about 5, 7 and 9 give or take a year.  The oldest of our young men is now twenty-seven.  All that to say, we been through a few bee stings, basketball games, camping trips, parties, moves, weddings and, well, you get the picture.

Our first stop was lunch at Clanton’s Cafe in Vinita, Oklahoma.  Chicken and dressing, chicken fried steak, squash casserole, banana pudding…..yum.Next stop…….Joplin, Missouri!

Must have wine with chocolate.

Here we introduced John to Sonic Happy Hour.  How could he not know??? oh, botherImportant stuff in the front seat.  The girls had the candy in the back seat!

And off into the sunset we rode…. where we eventually did release our hostages.

“We’ll be Friends Forever, won’t we, Pooh?’ asked Piglet. Even longer,’ Pooh answered.”
