It’s A BOY! (200th Post ~ ReaLLY?)

Today is a very special day.  September 8th.  My 200th post since I began this little blogging journey in January.  And while that is fun and cool…that isn’t even the “special” part!

What makes this day extraordinary?  The birth of our second son, Chi. Twenty-five years ago.   There is something unexplainable about having a son.  And then when you are blessed with TWO of them, your life becomes unlike anything you ever expected.  It becomes more.  I love my boys.

Stuck on You

I thought it was a fairly organized junk/calendar drawer. I could slide my hand in without even looking and get what I needed.   Until Sunday.  Simply study the pictures.  Then you will understand.

Don’t try this at home.  Unless you have a guest that talks too much.  🙂

Have a great day, friends!  And be nice to people ♥

Forever Friends

Yesterday I posted about “Twenty Seconds of Courage“.  Today I am thinking of my friend, Linda.  You see, when I was around her, I felt stronger, smarter, and funnier.  She was a friend that did not judge.  She loved me for me.  She loved my boys.  I cannot explain the calm that I felt when around Linda.  She gave me courage and confidence.

Our adventure began at the library.  We “met”.  We discussed growing up in the same town and knowing “of” each other.  Since we both had boys AND homeschooled, we decided to try teaching some joint classes.  And so began a wonderful relationship of two families.  I recall standing eggs on end at the spring equinox, horseback riding lessons, birthday parties and yes, even rappelling.  We challenged each other! And then careers and states took us miles apart.  We kept in close contact at first.  I will never forget the day her first grand baby was born.  She called me at work in Missouri.  I was sure something was wrong!  But it wasn’t.  It was all right.  She was a grandma.  A PROUD grandma.

Miles distanced us.  But finally, through Facebook, we connected again.  I still have those messages.  It was evident how much Linda still loved her boys!

” You guys are always apart of us,  you are great people.
April 7 Evan will be 19. Brad turned 25 last Friday, Feb 12.  Eric will be 22 June 6.
We have wonderful memories of being with you all.
Tell everyone Hi.
Love, Linda “

We were both excited to be on-track with each other again.  Facebook can be a great way to reconnect!  And then just two months later, the same way that Linda had found me, I found out that I had lost her.  She did not survive a highway accident.  I mourned for our lost years.  I mourned for her family.  This was all so wrong.  I couldn’t fix it.

Yesterday was Linda’s birthday.  I left a message on her Facebook wall to remind her that I was thinking of her.  Thank you, Linda, for being my friend.  I miss you.  You inspire me, encourage me, and make a difference in my life.  Still.  ♥

Twenty Seconds of Courage

Hubby and I watched, “We Bought a Zoo” a few evenings ago.  To be honest, neither of  expected much from the film.  And isn’t it good to have low expectations?  That way any positive is a bonus!  We were pleasantly surprised with the “whole” of the movie.  In fact, it left us both with a challenge to each other that we were talking about the next day.  “Twenty Seconds of Courage.”  That might be all the time it takes to do something great, save a life, or even turn your own life around.

Yesterday, when I was approached by my hubby to jump into a helicopter and I am the biggest chicken in the world when it comes to flying,  the first thought in my head was, “NO”.  Then my mouth said, “Well, hurry and pay so I don’t change my mind.”  And he did.  And up we went.  I’m still here to tell ya about it, too!

I talked to our youngest son a little later on the phone.  Here is a bit of the conversation, son ~ “What are you guys doing?”  me ~ “I just flew in a helicopter.”  son ~  “Is everything alright?!?!?”  I think he thought we’d been med-flighted!   He knows my fears that well…..:)

I did not buy a zoo, but I flew in a helicopter.  And I’ll take that for today ~

Twenty Seconds of Courage.  Try it.  Happy Tuesday! that seems like Monday to me!

I met Rhonda recently, through “Blog Land”. I have found her to be honest, funny and use words sometimes that I don’t! 🙂 Mostly though, Rhonda displays her zest for life. Here she shares her heart for her son…..may God bless both of them. ♥♥♥ Much love, Rhonda ~ paula

When is the Last Time You Rode a White Horse?

I don’t know about you, but I hate getting the hiccups.  It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it can never be at a convenient time.  At first you make the declaration to those around you, “I have the hiccups.”  Like they have not already figured it out!   Then they all join in trying to help rid you of them:

1.  Put your head in this paper sack and breathe.  paper or plastic?

2.  They attempt to scare you by yelling. but you know it’s coming, you’ve done this before

3.  Drink this water.  so that you can hiccup and possibly choke

4.  Eat a piece of bread. again, the choking!

5.  A spoonful of sugar to trigger the nerves.  okay…make it white icing and I’ll do it!

All attempts are to help you at first.  Then it becomes a challenge. A game of sorts.

I am about to reveal to you a secret solution to this occasional dilemma.  You will either be deemed a hero or a witch.  I lean towards the latter.  Simply ask the hiccup-or this question, “When is the last time you rode a white horse?”   p a u s e …….  and if they hiccup again or hesitate, add,  “Can you tell me right here, right now?  When was it?”  And if their answer is, “Well, I’ve never ridden a white horse”, then you ask, “Well, what color horse  HAVE you ridden?”  Yep….now you are just make stuff up.  Simply distracting them.   But nine times out of ten, this works to rid the beastly annoyance.

Case in point.  We lived in Bella Vista, Arkansas.  I was in line at the grocery store behind a young woman who had the LOUD hiccups.  Folks in NW Arkansas are generally friendly, so I thought I was helping her when I asked out of the blue, “Um, excuse me.  When is the last time you rode a white horse?”  I wish you could have seen the expression on her face!  She wanted to bolt.  Instead she answered, “Um, I don’t think ever.”  I was quiet for a moment, then said, “Your hiccups are gone now.”  She paid for her few items, looked at me, and out the door she went never saying another word or hiccup.  Yep.  I’m pretty sure she thought I was a witch.  🙂

I did this more recently at a photo lab here in town. The little cashier had the hiccups.  I asked the question.  Then I said, “Are your hiccups gone?”  Her response?  First she looked around, like there might be a camera or something.  Then turned to me and the other lady working there and said, “They are gone!  I’ve had them all afternoon!  How did you do that?”  And so I told her.  “I’m a witch.”  NO, NOT REALLY!  🙂

Have a great day today, my friends.  And never doubt the element of surprise! 🙂
