Use Time ~ Don’t Lose It!

This has been the week in our fair state of Oklahoma, as in the majority of the states, of time change.  The dreaded “Spring Forward”and losing an hour.  As you can already tell, it doesn’t set well by me.  This occurred last Sunday morning….here it is Thursday I think and I’m just now posting ANYTHING.  No, I’m not so naive as to blame everything on this one hour change…..but my days certainly are going by quickly and without everything on my “list” getting done.  It seems rather than losing just an hour, I have lost days.

But alas!  I shall roll with this one, too!  For I have been reminded this week, of how fragile life is…..that a little kindness can go a long way….and that our souls are greatly rewarded when we take the time to hold a hand, simply listen, and sing some old hymns. ♥

Here are a few pics shot along the way this week…..through the window, of course~

And I Know Who Holds My Hand

There are times in life when you are just “being” and then a moment appears before your eyes that you want to capture.  This particular moment occurred during our second son’s wedding, four and a half years ago.  An outdoor wedding in August and triple digit temps were not allowed to dilute the joy of this priceless day.  And as the bride joined hands with her groom at the front of the amphitheater, so did the bride’s grandparents join hands, sitting in front of us.

Yesterday, when we learned of the loss of our daughter-in-law’s grandfather, I thought of this photo and searched to find it.  I looked at these hands and wondered about the first time they held each other.  The first time they held their children, their grandchildren and their great-grand children. I thought of how his hands gave and shared and sacrificed for his family.  And I thought of his sweet wife, as she has sat by his side through his illness, always holding his hand.

You’ve touched so many lives, Farris.  We are all better people for having known you.  May you rest in peace♥

At the Flea Market

Hubby was on vacation last week, so we did a lot of running here and there. We ended up at this flea market one morning. We saw folks we knew, met some new ones, and had a lot of fun just reminiscing.   Fortunately for us, it was too cold for any fleas!

Liars?

Out for a little drive on Sunday, hubby noticed this “embellished” realtor sign just off of the highway. Prank? Vandalism? Ticked off? It was painted on both sides, as neatly as one can paint with spray paint. But regardless, it was obvious no one had contacted the realtor to inform them of their defaced sign.  So I did.  Right after I snapped a shot. liar SIGN017

Hope your day is a good one. Be nice to people. ♥ You never know what they may be dealing with today.

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.”  (by John Newton)

This is the song that is stuck in my head this early Sunday morning.  The worn-out t-shirt that I have on has a quote on it that reads, ” I’m the wretch the song refers to.”  I wear it knowing that it’s definitely all about the grace.  His grace. ♥

Keep the Old

feb take27Make new friends, Keep the old
One is Silver and the other Gold ♥

When I was little, I was a Girl Scout Brownie for a short time.  I assumed we would get to eat brownies at every meeting.  Never happened.  But I did learn a million and one songs that I still recall.

The above verse is from one of those songs imprinted in my brain.  And as we left my parents’ home the other day, this is the song I kept hearing.  We were headed to meet dear friends that we had not seen for about thirteen years.

We arrived at Pop’s within minutes of each other, waving each other down in the parking lot.  Isn’t it funny how some things stay the same?  Like the cheery smiles and warm embraces.  Easy conversation.  Catching up on life.  Trying to figure out where time went and how on earth it took so long to meet again.  Understanding that life takes us in different directions.  Promising to never let that much time lapse again between visits.  Leaving feeling better for having know them.

Gold…..definately gold. ♥

Through the Windows

We took a little drive over the weekend to Oklahoma City. We wanted to celebrate Dad’s birthday and share some carrot cake! I didn’t realize until I got home that I had no “people” photos, but here are a few pics I snapped through windows on our way there.

Burned Biscuits

An inspirational message too great not to pass along…..

Brad Stanton's avatarIdeas for success

00000gty When I was a kid, my Mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my Mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!
All my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my Mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that ugly burned biscuit. He ate every bite of that thing…never made a face nor uttered a word about it!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my Mom apologize to my dad for burning the…

Free Beer

Rain is coming down in our part of Oklahoma this morning. Thunder. Lightning. My phone sent me an emergency message a few moments ago.  I didn’t even know it DID that!   It read, “Blizzard Warning this area til 6:00 AM CST.  Prepare, Avoid Travel, Check media.”

Hubby and I had extended an invitation to our sister-in-law Mary to visit us this week.  Mary is from Florida.  Mary said she did not like our winter weather and declined, saying she would wait til spring.  Smart call, Mary.  But we could have built one fine snowman!

Happy Monday everyone.  Stay warm or cool….be safe and remember to be nice to each other.  Here’s a little photo I shot in front of our local liquor store….it made me smile, hoping to pass that smile on to you. ♥
