And Now on a Personal Note ~

Today is a rather personal issue that I’ll be sharing.  Personal, but one that I suspect many of you have experienced.  I batted it back and forth, on blogging it.  But then while talking to my sister, her words were, “You should blog this.”  The next part I struggle with is how much to share and how to go about it.  I have done a journal the past couple of weeks.  But I’ve decided for now, not to bore you with that.

A week ago Saturday, hubby and I were getting up early to drive to Enid, Oklahoma, to see our kids.  I reached over to turn off the alarm clock and my right side hurt.  It felt bruised and sore.  That’s when I discovered a large knot in my breast.  I am normally calm and matter of fact when medical issues arise.  But I was so caught off guard, I just blurted out, “I have a lump and it’s huge and it hurts.”  A great way to start the conversation in the morning!

On Monday, I called my doctor’s office and frankly, was frustrated that no one was available to talk to me.  The receptionist heard my issue, was kind, but all she could do was make an appointment for me and tell me, “someone will call you later”.  I seemed to be the only one feeling an urgency.  My appointment was not until Thursday afternoon.  When Thursday finally arrived, my doctor said the mass had “several tendencies” and that was good.  She scheduled a diagnostic mammo for the following Monday.  I couldn’t go to my normal place in town, as they were booked, so she was going to send me to a place in Tulsa.

Monday afternoon, my hubby cleared his schedule so that he can take me to Hillcrest Medical Center.  It was a women’s center, so they could really cater to my specific needs, right?  It’s near downtown Tulsa, parking is sparse.  But we did locate the building and once inside immediately  saw the Women’s Breast Care Center.  I was expecting pink and fluffy and caring people to great me in my despair.  Nope.  Not at this place.  What I found was the sign-in sheet and no one there to greet or direct.  Eventually though, a militant woman in purple scrubs screams a name and says “Hall on the left, second chair.”  And if you don’t respond, she yells it again.  I was fortunate enough to get a lady that was filling in that day for my registration.  Once I engaged her in conversation, she was very sweet.  But we witnessed two employees being so rude and just plain mean to patients in this outer area.  Why?  It was all so unnecessary.  How hard is it to change your tone and smile?  Really?  Did they really think any of us wanted to be there any more than THEY did?

My assigned tech was an absolute sweetheart.  Since we were up close and personal (!) I was glad for that!  We talked about her little girls and my big boys and how tough it is to raise children.  After the radiologist read the film, he had them do an ultrasound.  A little later, the ultrasound tech came to tell me what the radiologist said, “It is probably a cyst and more than likely benign, but we need to do this again in about six months to compare films and check for changes”.   Would that set your mind at ease?  It didn’t mine, either.

So an hour and a half later after walking into this place, I walk out to the now, almost empty, waiting area where I can tell my hubby is imagining the worst.  I tell him what was relayed to me.  I feel his unease, too.   I tell him I never want to come back to this place.  He assures me that no matter what, he will take me every time.  That I will not be alone.

My doctor received the report and I talked to her yesterday.  I told her how rude and unwelcoming they were at this place and that I wanted future appointments at our regular place.  She apologized and said, “Maybe it was just an off day for them”.   You know what?  It was an off day for every one of us that had to be there that day.  I didn’t go in mean and unpleasant, though.  I was looking for a bit of professionalism and some reassurance.

I am healthy.  I have not had a lot of dealings with the medical profession.  The ones that I have had, with a couple of exceptions, have been good.  The medical field should not be without accountability and should also practice good customer service.  I CAN go somewhere else.

Please understand that this post is not written asking for any sympathy or “oh-no’s”.  I get that this is common and I am not alone in it.  I am writing out of  pure frustration because I know that many of you out there have dealt with crummy health “professionals” or could be dealing with them now.  We may not always get the “warm and fuzzy” treatment, but we should at least expect common courtesy and kindness.  Do you think that is asking too much???

(COMMENTS ENCOURAGED ON THIS POST!!!! )

So again I say, Be nice to people.  We never know what they may be going through ~ ♥

I Found a Chandelier in the Barn~

Late last fall, my hubby and I found a barn sale just outside of town.  We became fast friends with the couple that was running the sale.  I had to call my sister to see if she wanted stuff, too!  (and she did) My hubby had to go home and trade out the car for his truck to bring our “haul” home.  Here is one of the goodies I found in the back corner of the barn.  Cobwebs, dead spiders and dirt were thrown in at no extra charge! (which is why we needed the truck!) A pretty good deal for eight bucks.

Before the car wash ~

AT the car wash!

Spraying with a hammered black paint ~ (I chose the hammered texture because it is suppose to be better at covering imperfections on a “rough” piece.)

Dry time!

Now what?  Trying to decide if I should use candles, or flicker lights or votives?  Open for suggestions!  I’ll be hanging this in the master bath ~

Here I am playing with some votives I already have.  But how do you think red would look?

The winner (per random.org) of our gift card is MORGAN TOPP!  Congrats Morgan! And thanks to ALL of you for reading!

Have a great day friends!  Coming SOON. Garage Sale 101! 😉  Be good to each other ♥

Entertaining Peeps!

How do you entertain your “Peeps” for Easter, after the lunch and the Easter egg hunt?  Well here are some pics of what our boys always did.  (Mad, Chi and Caleb ~ Caleb being our son’s best friend, therefore….our son also!)  Hubby and I reenacted it last night.  It’s just funny.  But more fun when the boys are here!

Place on microwave plate and arm each with a sword.  We colored them with felt tip marker.  I’m the green one!

Place in microwave and push 30 seconds.  Let the games begin!

Oh….I think I’m winning!

LOL….Speaking of that warped sense of humor ~

Green toothpick on top….Horray!  I did win! 😉

Here are some other little peeps I saw at the Pryor Park Trade Days, yesterday.

Wishing you a wonderful Saturday!  Stop to “play” today.  And be nice to your “peeps”.  We never know what others might be going through ~ ♥

A Mama’s Hope ~

Good Friday.  I really never understood why it was called “good”.  I’ve read the account repeatedly.  I could understand Easter being called “Good Sunday”.  But Friday was a horrific day for Jesus.  For those that loved Him.  For His mama.

When I ponder on the heartache I have had for my own children, I cannot begin to  imagine Mary’s.  Illness.  Struggles. Disappointment.  Mistakes.  A mama wants to fix these things for her children, no matter their age.  The hardest place is when you come to the realization that you have no power to change a circumstance.  Were the many prayers sent up for this child all in vain?

And then I reflect upon Mary.  She had no power.  No prayer left.  Her heart exposed.  I cannot help but wonder, when her eyes met His eyes that day, did she know?  Did she know through the tears, the blood, and His broken body, that He would save the world?  Did that tiny speck of hope still lie somewhere deep inside her aching soul?

She was a mama.  Mama’s always have hope for their babies.   And somehow, I think she knew….

Speaking of Pineapples ~

A while back at a friend’s house for dinner, I asked, “What can I do to help?”  She grabbed the pineapple off of the counter and handed it to me.  “Oh no, I’ll do anything, but the pineapple.  I butcher pineapples!” my reply.  Then she pulled out a new “tool” from Williams Sonoma and demonstrated how easy it was to use. (http://www.williams-sonoma.com/search/results.html?words=pineapple%20easy%20slicer) The cost is $19.99, but the day I went they were 20% off, so watch for sale time!

Other than the handle, the slicer is stainless steel, easy to use and clean.  We love pineapples, and have them often now with this contraption AND the fact the Aldi’s Grocery Store (www.Aldifoods.com) has them on sale for .99 a couple of times a month.

Cut each end of the pineapple off with a sharp knife.  UNLESS you want to use the outside as a dish to hold fruit or a drink.  Then you would leave the bottom end attached.

Place your slicer on top of the pineapple and get ready to push down and turn.

The first time you use this at your house, everyone will want a turn at twisting it.  Yep, even the adults!  😉

Look at that juicy pineapple!  There is also a wedge attachment that comes with the slicer, but we prefer whole slices.

It’s one of those kitchen tools that just makes life easier. (Thanks hubby ~ for demonstrating for us!)

A Few MORE of My Favorite Things ~

I thought I’d share a few of my favorite things with you today!  Please feel free to post YOUR favorite things in the comment area!

Totally worth the almost $5.00 a jar.  If you like olives AND hot…I will be your best friend once you try these ~ yep…they are THAT good!

The Vitamin E stick is about $1.50 a tube.  You’ll want more than one, though.  I use it on my lips, around my eyes, and on my cuticles. So conditioning! LOVE!

This is American Beauty Concealer (fair) from Kohl’s.  I don’t recall what I paid for this, but it was reasonable, plus I had a 30% off coupon.  I used to buy an expensive brand, but tried this and love it.  It covers well and lasts a very long time. (which is why I cannot recall the price.  I’ve had this about a year)

See how much has been used?  And I’ve had this almost a year!  I especially use it in the summertime.  It is great for underneath makeup because it is light and absorbs quickly.  NOTE:  This is the GEL.  There is also a LOTION.  My skin has a tendency towards being oily so I must have the GEL.  I think it’s twenty-something dollars.  It lasts a LONG time, plus I purchase when there is a giveaway so that I have their new products to try!

I don’t tan.  I couldn’t even if I wanted to.  My freckles would just mass together.  But I do like to take the white glare from my legs.  This does that for me in just a couple of applications.  It’s around $8.00.

I am a germophobic.  There. It’s said. I carry these Bath and Body Works antibacterials in my purse, car, hubby’s truck and pocket.  The normal price is about a buck a piece, but when you hit the semi-annual sale (May and December) you’ll get them really cheap.  The MENTHA LIP TINT is a refreshing gloss for your lips.  It is always in my pocket, too.  It’s minty, glossy, conditioning AND even freshens your breath.  It’s about $7.50, but I always have a coupon or catch it on sale.  Yep….I am cheap, I mean frugal!

I am very picky about my hairspray.  I have always purchased Salon Brands, until now.  Last year, before a vacation, I picked up a small sample can of the above.  I ended up loving it!  It’s a huge can for only around $6.00!  YaY!

Please tell us about YOUR favorites in the comment area below.  And in case I haven’t told you lately, thanks so much for reading and for commenting on my posts.  It means more than you can ever know! ♥

Speaking of which….I happen to have an extra Bath and Body Works Mentha Lip Tint to share.  Comment on this post before midnight tonight and you are in for the drawing~ Have a GREAT DAY!
