Prep or Panic?

While it was still a t-shirt and flip-flops kinda day….the weather warning was one of bitter cold, snow and ice headed our way. So here are a few shots I took along the way….

I returned to the store yesterday, just as the sleet started falling from the gray skies. Boston baked beans candy were on my list!  And what about you….when you know you may be stuck inside for a day or so….what is your go to food?

Stay safe and warm!

What Do You Want for Christmas?

Since I posted yesterday….and didn’t even KNOW it….I thought today I would do so willingly. 🙂  One set of kids came through in route home yesterday.  As we were driving to see hubby at his store…who….by the way….worked 18 hours on his feet yesterday and almost as many the day before…..we spotted Santa in his workshop!  I was driving, so decided we should probably have a little visit with him.  Dragging my reluctant adult children….Santa and his helpers were not quite certain what to think of the trio of “big” kids.  As I sat “lightly” on his knee, his helper reassured me not to worry about it hurting him, claiming ~It’s a new knee, it should hold ~ Well that was reassuring!Santa & me

santa and chi angThis Santa seemed rather bashful, again, it may have been the present company, but he did ask the expected question, ~ What would you like for Christmas?  To which I replied ~My husband, at home. He shook his head as if to understand.  I know he didn’t, but perhaps the real Santa does.

So here’s hoping that you get to have a visit with Santa sometime this month.  Now I turn the question to you….If but one thing….what would you ask for?

Happy December!

About Being Thankful

color birdThanksgiving Eve.  I have typed and deleted my words about five times now.  My heart is thankful, but there are many things that need to change.  Things that I cannot control.

So I will dwell on the good.  Blessings beyond belief.  A God that loves me.  Good health. A wonderful family.  A hubby that loves me and puts up with more than he should to provide for our family.  Dear friends. The sweetest neighbors in Oklahoma.  Laughter. Music.  Food in the pantry.  Two little dogs that require me to do much more laundry and mopping than I’d like to….but then they give me that look, or bring me the frisbee to play….and … well….you know. Then there are the friends, acquaintances and amazing connections that have come together all because of blogging.   Never did I expect this!

On this Thanksgiving Eve…..I am sincerely grateful for you.  May your heart reflect on the good and be filled with His many blessings. May you forever remember to be kind to others every day.  We truly never know what they may be going through.  Happy Thanksgiving, friends ♥

Thou hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, – a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise.

Building Them Back Up

be kind amish

This week has been an interesting one.  My friend’s eleven year old daughter was assaulted on the school bus going home Wednesday evening.  Some high school boys proposed a dare to each other. Then one hit the little girl in the head and then in the face.  Mimicking the knock-out game, perhaps?  Her mom took her to the hospital where it was determined there was a concussion.  We all know that it’s so much more than the physical aspects she is dealing with now. She’s a little girl.  She’s frightened.  This makes no sense.  Trying to build back up what someone took upon themselves to tear down ~ her mama said.

The support they are receiving from friends and total strangers is amazing.  Three Oklahoma Highway Patrolmen came to their house the next day. The troopers were so touched by her story that they went out of their way to give her a “OHP Protective Bear.” She was also presented with a “Junior Trooper Bravery Award” for displaying courage under stressful conditions. Building her back up…

Sadly, bullying is every day life. You watch the mom in the store with her child, belittling them.  Drive down the road and you are guaranteed to meet an aggressive driver. You read a post in an on-line news feed and it is shocking at how people address each other!  No filters.  No regard for feelings.  Certainly no respect.  Where does all of this anger come from?

And then there’s the workplace.  I witnessed the outcome of this as well this week….bosses that berate instead of encourage.  Is it their second nature, or is it expected as part of the corporate power game?   Building him/her back up…

This is the paragraph were I am supposed to offer a solution.  Well…there is one that’s been out there for a long time.  We just need to write it on our arm….and practice it.  Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.  Ephesians 4:32

That last part is the hardest. . . let it begin with me….

Bible Belt?

Yesterday when I stopped to fuel up my vehicle, I took a double when I saw this placed carefully on top of the pump.  I glanced at the other pumps and saw no other Bibles.  I picked it up, looked for “advertisement” on the plastic wrap, and found none.

Seeing this Bible warmed my soul.  I placed it back on the pump….with hopes that it would end up where it needed to be.  Or maybe it already was?

I have hidden Your word in my heart… ♥

Venus vs. Mars ~ continues

A little drive to our favorite Amish lunch place a couple of days ago….and once again I found myself saying to hubby, “STOP…is anyone behind you?”  He is accustomed to this by now.  I couldn’t resist snapping this cute little guy!rooster2

It isn’t often this goes the other way. But last Sunday it did.  A quick turnaround on a country highway as hubby said “Get your camera ready.” What had I missed?

So in all fairness and with respect….I must also show you the proper and correct sign on the other end of the bridge.chief 2

How Do You Thank a Veteran?

veterans 059 We were privileged to join our local Owasso VFW in placing American flags on the grave sites of  veterans this past week.

  veterans 036

I was asked yesterday, “How do you say thank you to a Veteran?”

From your heart.  Just thank them from your heart.

A kind word or gesture.

Hand over heart at the passing of the flag.

A meal.

Coffee.

An ear to listen.

A flag on their grave to honor their sacrifice. veterans 047 veterans 046 veterans 049veterans 048veterans 051

Lest We Forget…

Proudly honoring our veterans today.  and always.  Thank you ♥

If you are a veteran, we thank you for your service. We are also grateful for the many special veterans in each of our lives.  Please feel free to add your name(s) and your thoughts in the comment area. ♥

Visiting Small Town America ~ Diamond Point School, Oklahoma

diamond point schoolWhile out for a drive last Sunday, hubby eyed a sign, turned around, and the search began….down one long country road to another.  What did we discover?  A treasure from 1919, the year hubby’s dad was born.  Diamond Point School, a one room school-house in Nowata County, Oklahoma ~diamond point school yard

We sat in the car for a moment studying the grounds, then  jumped out to explore. The slide was calling my name, but the steps going up were a bit wiggly…and as much as I wanted to take off down the thing, the extreme tilt to the right, plus the rust spots here and there, made hubby think he might not be able to catch me.  #how long would it take the ambulance to find us?

 diamond point slide steps

Hands out! Catch me, hubby!

Hands out! Catch me, hubby!

Plopping down in a swing, my first thought was whether or not the chains would hold me. I soon forgot about that. Do you remember flying~swinging?  Yep, me too. I told hubby we were gonna have to get one of these.

We couldn’t help but wonder about all the little feet that had walked where we were now  walking.  First loves and first kisses.  Fights and life long friendships.  Jump-rope and games of chase. Brothers and sisters. Teachers and preachers and parents and picnics.diamond point school yard1

(Notice the little white outhouses in the far back, left and right side. They say “girls” and “boys”.)

Who was the last person to raise the American flag on this still sturdy pole….and what were they thinking when it was folded for the last time?

1919 to 1968.  Bless those who graced this place and those who continue to preserve Diamond Point Schooldiamond point teterdiamond point merry 2 with edge
