Keys to Success (an awesome Saturday reblog!)

I started to e-mail this blog to friends and then thought “WAIT….I need to share this with ALL of my friends!” So it is short, but oh so sweet. Those keys in your pocket could change your way of thinking! 🙂 HappY Saturday!

Keys to success:

Decide what you want in life
(What would you do with your life if you knew you couldn’t fail )
Think about what you do well
Clarify your values
Set goals (don’t be afraid to set high goals)
Believe you can reach your goals
Find other people to work with
Be disciplined and persistent
Enjoy your work, work hard
Never, never give up
pray

A key or set of keys can be the key to success. Many people put their keys in their pocket or purse in the morning and take them out to start their car, unlock their house, possibly other things. Many people take them out of their pocket before bed.

When you touch your key, remember to be thankful for whatever that key unlocks. Take your apartment or house for example. Even if it is not exactly what you want, you can still be…

Read Any Good Books Lately?

So talk to me about what you’ve been reading lately!  What are you planning on reading?  Or tell me what book you feel so strongly about, you feel everyone you know should read it?  What book have you read more than once???  As an avid reader, I really want to know!

Oh…..and one more question for you.  Real book or Kindle / E-Reader?  Talk. To. Me! (and to each other~)

As for the photos?  Totally unrelated, obviously.  I just couldn’t handle the white page ~  Have a great Friday, ya’ll!  🙂

Thoughts from Pooh ~

Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known. ~Winnie the Pooh  (Pooh’s Little Instruction Book)It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like “What about lunch?~Winnie the PoohYou can’t stay in your corner of the forest, waiting for others to come to you; you have to go to them sometimes. ~  Winnie the Pooh ♥

The Observation Car

The observation car on the Amtrak passenger train, has got to be the best part of riding the rails.  Even on a rainy day, there was just so much to take in while rolling across Texas.  After dinner in the dining car, this is where we landed. It is the perfect relaxing space. On this particular rainy evening, just before a brief stop in Austin, Texas, it became the perfect “gathering” place.I was barely seated in the observation car when a young man( on the right below), Mike, wanted to see my camera.  His enthusiasm for photography was contagious.  He showed me many photos he’d taken along the way from where his journey had started in Springfield, Illinois.  He told me he was looking to shoot a ~ what?  I didn’t understand at first.  I listened more closely.  He described with his arms a chomper?  Crocodiles, he said.  Or alligators.  I did NOT burst his bubble and tell him we probably wouldn’t see either of those critters.  I just committed to helping him watch for them through the windows.

This was his first trip “alone”.  He destination?  Los Angeles.  His plans?  To learn the recording business.  I switched seats promptly to sit closer to him.  He wanted me to listen to his music and before I knew it, I was wearing his headphones and be-bopping to his music.  No….to his life.  His story through the headphones was one of a young man who had gotten with the wrong crowd.  His life was in a downward spiral.  He was seeking the Lord to pull him back up, to make him a better man.  His goal now?  To help others and pursue his dreams. I finished the song, took off the headphones, thanked him for sharing his song/life with me and wanting to say so much more…..and his phone rang.  Well of course, I couldn’t help but listen!  We were next to each other! “I’m good, I’m fine.  I know it’s my first trip alone, but you can’t be worrying.  Yes, there are lots of nice people here to talk to.”  ~pause~ “What state are we in?”  Me ~ “Still Texas.”  Him, back on phone, “Man, we still in Texas. This is the biggest place I’ve ever seen!  I’ve been in Texas all day long!”  And this made me think of my own boys.  Their first trips “alone”.  And being the mama on the other side of that phone call.Mason is the young man on the left.  He too, began in Springfield…destination L.A.  His conversations were mostly in “song”.  When he left and came back with his guitar, well, I could hardly control myself.  Music.  Raw sweet music.  I get lost in it.  I looked at hubby and by the look in his eyes, I could see he was thinking of our “boy band” at home, too. (okay ~ my sons would HATE being called a boy band….but then, I am the one penning this! :))  Mason was amazing.  You could give him a subject or just a word and he would immediately produce an awesome country song about it.  And not just silly stuff….GOOD STUFF!  And once he would begin his song, Mike would join in with the hip-hop.  It was an amazing evening.  There is no other place on earth I’d have rather been.Austin, Texas through the window ~Mason sang about his ride on the train.  How it started with five friends, and ended with ten. ♥  That’s how we felt too, Mason.

Mike and I never located that gator or croc.  But just before Austin, Texas, the rain broke for a spell, and we did capture this rainbow together.  Hubby and I left the car a bit later for our room.  We wished them well.  And we meant it.  From the depths of our heart ♥

Appreciation

I had the pleasure, a couple of weeks ago, of meeting one of my far away blogger friends in real life.  Okay ~ well, not exactly in person, but close!  Hubby and I were on our long train ride, dinner was over, hubby was on his phone with a co-worker, and the text came through, “Is this a good time to visit?”  I was sitting in the observation car, surrounded by strangers that were no longer strange to me….watching the rain.  “Yes!”  I texted back.  “But hurry while I still have bars!” ( We learned quickly on the train that if you need to call someone, do it while going through a city/town. ) A couple of minutes later, my phone rang.  And for a split second, I was nervous.  All of our conversations up to this point had been through cyberspace.  What would we talk about? What if she was weird? 😉  What if she realized I was weird?  I answered, “Bonnie?” giggle…giggle….. and the next few minutes were spent learning about each other’s day, children, soccer games, Sonics, In & Outs, but mostly, simply getting to know each other.  Hearing each other’s audible voices.  Laughing that fried okra was a sacred Oklahoma food…..more on that story later!  What a perfect way to spend an evening.  There is a true human being behind each blog.  And maybe we just touch on highs and lows in their lives by what they “feed” through their posts, but they are real.  And funny and sad and happy and lonely.  Just. Like. You.  I wouldn’t take anything for my time spent with Bonnie, “on the train”.

And so this leads to a lovely gesture extended to me yesterday from my gal, Marsha.  She told me she appreciated me and invited me to join the Circle of Appreciation.  Once I determined it was not a cult, I decided to jump on board. 🙂  We don’t say it enough or hear it enough.  I’d like to have a hand in changing that.  So thank you dear Marsha! You made my day!  I appreciate you and your sweet blog, also! http://tchistorygal.wordpress.com/

* Refer back to the blogger who invited you.

* Invite 2 bloggers to join the Līgo Circle of Appreciation on a post.

So in following with the above………

A great blog is one that challenges you, embraces you and makes you laugh.  They invite you to sit on the front porch with them, sip tea, and leave you looking forward to coming back for more!

The challenge for me on this post, is to challenge myself to tell you more often, how much I appreciate you.  Cause I do, ya know.

Today I am passing this on to Bonnie (mentioned at the top).  She’s a dear and you will enjoy your time spent at Paper Keeper .

I also hope you will hop over and visit Maggie in Norway.  Her book “Fly Away Home” is one you might want to consider adding to your reading list!

Life in the Ozarks is awesome.  So I must keep close tabs on Lorrie’s blog since I no longer live there.  She reminds me of why I want to end up there again one day!  Check out The Eff Stop for the best photos ever!

I know, that’s not just two.  And the problem with so many super blogs? I want to list them all, but time does not allow.  So I am counting on you guys to spread the love and the appreciation.  There is plenty to go around.

I truly appreciate you guys.  Readers, bloggers, fam &  friends.  And hubby, thanks for almost always stopping the car when I yell, “STOP THE CAR!” so I can get a shot. (photo…not whiskey ~ usually)  You’re the best ♥  Pass it on, people……

p.s.  If you don’t have a blog….jump in….do it.  There are wonderful friends out there just waiting for you!

And so It Begins ~

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were  a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. George EliotI do not have words to describe the feelings that fall brings.  The ever-changing colors, the chill in the air, the majesty of it all~  So I will simply chase the leaves with my camera and see what I might capture along the way.  I’ve said it before and I will say it again…..HaPPy FaLL! ♥

Travel & Furry Friends

We met many nice folks on our trip last week….but the furry friends were abundant along the way, too.  They were not camera-shy either!Meet Jack.  He rode the train with us to Ft. Worth, Texas.  This was his first train ride and he loved looking out the window.  until he heard my peanut m & m’s open From our water-taxi ~He’s with the pub.  And no, he is not real ~Pepper was enjoying his ice water on the river walk….until he spotted the DUCK!This little guy wasn’t big enough to belly up to the bar, but he had his own chair! This beautiful boxer was exercising and chasing a few ducks. not to worry, he did not get one!   The water taxi told on him…and pretty soon the river walk police arrived.  Fortunately, he swam hard when called and was out of the water and fast.  None of us had seen a thing! These sweet little girls were waiting for us when we got home.  Sugar and Baby ~ They are the best ♥

Welcome to Texas!

Our journey began in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  We gradually made our way to the Norman Train Depot.  A very gloomy day would not be allowed to dampen our excitement for our travel! About four hours later, we were changing trains in Fort Worth, Texas.  The rain was coming down pretty good, and my head was down as I moved quickly toward the station to grab a sandwich before the next train.  And then, in the middle of the rain and rush of people, hubby stopped just ahead of me.  He looked to me as for help,  but I didn’t understand why.  He stepped right, so did she.  He stepped left, so did she.  At first glance I saw the cutest, friendliest woman ever ~ enduring the rain and welcoming all to Texas! Awesome.  So I grabbed my camera….yep…even in the crowd and the rain and folks now having to step around us….I had to get a picture of her!  Then I looked beyond her blue spectacles…..it was Julie!  My Julie!  And she had driven three hours, run a 5 K in the rain, then popped over to the station!  (and she came bearing gifts, too!) Who would go to this much time and trouble to surprise us?  That would be my Julie.  My friend since 1966.  And this is only part of why I love her so much! ♥
